This was showing really nicely considering the age and the fact that it was $7 a bottle in Kearney, Nebraska.
Some fruit remains with oak and a touch of spice leading the charge. Get at this now if you haven’t already.

It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix! This week it's a nicely aged one from Australia.

Deep ruby in color with a wide brick/orange rim.

Still fruity on the nose with blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, plums, raspberries, earth, green vegetables, beef jerky, spices, coffee, vinaigrette, eucalyptus, cinnamon, wet leaves and black pepper.

Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, chocolates, tobacco, coke, graphite, coffee, earth, vegetables, herbs, river rocks, licorice, cloves, vinaigrette, spices and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This 18 year old Australian Cabernet is still drinking very nicely. Not fully balanced any longer, but showing great complexity and a nice mouthfeel.

Needs an hour to open up properly and show some tannins. Good by itself or with food. I paired it with a steak sandwich and the beach...

Grapes are grown on Terra Rosa soils and aged in French and American oak barrels for 24 months.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Starting to fade a bit, being a bit light and thin - still has a great Cabernet nose with mint & chocolate but fruit has faded on the palate

One of my favorite ever wines. Found another 1998 on Langtons. Did not disappoint, still showing sweet Coonawarra fruit and earthy dusty tannins. So enjoyed it!

Bought on Langtons for a bargain. Always a favorite, mature Coonawarra Cabernet with sweet dusty tannins. Loved it!

1998 Lost its fruit character. Tastes a bit stalky.
