Hot summer day and a lot of work around the house - needed something refreshing. An unusual champagne that was part of a direct import in 2023. A good price at $87 and 2004 was not a bad year. Funky bottle, but aside from that, a down to earth vintage bottling that hits the spot and punches a decent QPR. Yeasty brioche, apple, and toasted almonds with a nice and not overpowering tartness. Not regretting buying (and drinking) this uncommon champagne.

2006 vintage. Medium lemon hue. On the nose, fairly deep concentration of baked apples, vanilla pod, hints of wood ageing and autolytic character. On the palate, slight oxidised style, rich and generous. Medium plus acidity, with good concentration without being unbalanced. The finish was long and luscious. Served cold, the richness doesn’t overwhelm the senses. Edging towards room temperature, the wine was too much for me and I struggled to continue drinking it. Nonetheless, surprisingly good.
