Reserve To Kalon Vineyard Oakville Fumé Blanc
My prior notes still apply, but with the additional comment that, this time, I’m picking up more depth of fruit under the sheen of toasty oak.

Mar 28th, 2022That feeling when you want a gussied-up, old-school California white from an old-school patch of land. Clearly barrel-fermented and with high aspirations, this shows a nice toasty, butterscotchy overlay on grassy, intense, green melony fruit. Great intensity of flavors and crisp, lip-smacking acids carry through on the long finish. It almost seems like it needs a year or two more to come together. This transports me back to the reserve Fume Blancs of the late 1970s. Which is exactly what I wanted tonight.

Oct 25th, 2021Rich toasty oak up front, lovely fruit (though not very Sauvignon Blanc?), decent acid, medium-long finish, this shows some butterscotch flavors as well (the oak level?), otherwise rich and very good!!
