The 2018 Alpine Hillside is a dark, unctuous wine. Black cherry, plum, licorice, menthol and gravel infuse the 2018 with tremendous depth and concentration. Powerful and resonant in the glass, the Alpine Hillside is a Pinot built on creaminess and density, with a touch of whole cluster savoriness that balances things out nicely. The tannins need time so soften, but there is a lot to like. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020)

The Santa Cruz Mountains are producing some of the most exciting wines in California right now, and this stunning Pinot from Rhys is a great example of the brilliance that is being coaxed from the ridges and hilltops of this unique region. Crystalline and bright with berries and herbs and dusty earth all suffused with a gorgeous floral quality. Superb wine.

Spectacular showing for this still youthful, mountainous PN. Serious structure and loaded with crushed rock flavours, where refreshing acidity allows its ripe red berries to linger effortlessly. From Magnum. Should have waited another 10 years:(

A sadly corked bottle. Hoping the winery might exchange it when I go there in a week.
