Reyneke
Organic Syrah
Quite a complex nose to this 2018 Biodynamic Syrah from Reyneke, and one that immediately positions this wine some way above its asking price. Blackberry, macerated cherry, fig and smoky bacon steal the show, with singed cigar, black peppercorn and fresh green pepper in the wings.
Deep, inky palate with more than a nod to Cornas, with its savoury flavours of grilled meat and fairly rich profile - this is young, and wants a couple more years in bottle to better integrate. Promising stuff.

Deep Ruby with aromas of fresh berry fruits, floral and spicy notes. On the palate flavors of rich ripe fruits, plum and blueberry with smoky oak, vanilla and pepper spice. Firm ripe tannins, vivid acidity, long finish ending with notes of fruit, cacao, toasty oak and sweet spice character. Nice!!

Apr 19th, 2021@Delectable This is their Organic Syrah.
The nose reveals; lighter V/A, dark currants, liquid smoke, hint of
Worcestershire sauce, ripe blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, mulberries, olallieberries, baked strawberries, black pepper, vanilla, Rich dark earth with dark & blue fresh and withering flowers.
The body again light for Syrah with medium, tarry, sticky tannins. Some V/A, dark currants, liquid smoke, hint of
Worcestershire sauce, ripe blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, mulberries, olallieberries, bakes strawberries, black pepper, vanilla, rich dark earth with dark, chewy leather, dry tobacco, heavy chunky granite minerals & fresh blue and dark withering flowers. Nice acidity. The finish has ripe fruit but is very mineral driven. It would be 5-7 years before I’d open a bottle. If opened earlier, expect some disappointment.
Photos of; their beautiful mountain view, happy cows grazing on their back hillside, Estate vine and the entrance to Reyneke.

Savoury, dark & meaty. Very old world style.
Nice presence on the palate, medium bodied, with a touch of creaminess and good acidity. Black olives, roast, meaty character. Yet this is till fresh, balanced, so drinkable.
What a lovely wine.
Blind this is a northern Rhône. And a really good one, too.
