Ultreia Bierzo Godello
Bierzo, Castilla y León, Spain
13.5% Godello - excellent wine from an excellent producer. If you haven’t done so already check out this varietal. Spanish origin, citrus, green apple, high acid medium body. Phylloxera almost wiped it out but it was revived in the 1970s. About 4000 acres are planted in Galicia.

Surprisingly easygoing and restrained, but honest and of course very well made. Perhaps a bit aromatically challenged at the moment, but there is excellent grip and salinity on the palate. Needs time. *Updated review*: Spectacular on the 3rd night. Pitch perfect balance of fruit and acidity, richness and focus. It has developed a nice chamomile note on the finish with much more pronounced salinity as well. The combination of nerve and texture reminds me why I love Godello so much.

First wine from Raul Pérez, first Godello (I think)...
What a wine!
The nose is made of lemon peel, white pear, white flowers, almond milk... The palate is very well made with a strong acid drive, making the wine fresh and dynamic. There is a good width, some peary notes all along, a bid wide, spherical mid palate, and a long, powerful and everlasting finish with pear, lemon peel notes that goes for ever and bit. Wow what a wine! I love it!

As always, a reminder that I need more godello in my life. Somehow lean and full at once, with yellow pit and orchard fruit in abundance, saline, ginger, marzipan, dried meadow plants

This was really fabulous. Raul Perez is a genius of course. Ripe apples, citrus, mineral, acidic. Adding this to the will purchase again category!

Green apple, apple pit and skins, candied lime and bubblegum nose. Rainwater and exotic citrus fruit braced by intense minerality moving into the palate. Pithy, citrusy finish with ample acid. A lean, pretty Godello.

Another Perez winner. Would be fun to blind this - like a village Chablis with a touch more salinity & dried grass/hay notes. Delicious.
