The 2021 Pinot Noir Savoy from Cliff Lede's Anderson Valley estate, is a dark, surprisingly brooding wine. Black cherry, plum, licorice, mocha, incense and dried flowers are all amplified. Large scaled and ample, the Savoy is a bit surprising for its intensity, yet all the elements are so well balanced. Low yields in 2021 contribute to the wine's richness. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2023)

3rd ever vintage of this wine. By far a more woody attitude but still a refreshing acidity and fruit layer that pairing with Sauerbraten really brought to the fore. Showing it’s earthy and herbal side. Pretty epic to find ally open this in year 17.

The last of 3 bottles. still exquisite, plush and rich with tannins starting to fall out.

Third and final bottle. Consistent profile of dark cherry. This bottle driven by forest floor, black licorice and sandalwood. Only distinctive difference is the tannins are more pronounced and now leaving a little sediment

A beautiful ruby color with a bouquet of violets, cherries, Vanilla Coke, and smoke. In the mouth the wine is silky soft, smooth with bright acidity and blueberries, raspberries, cocoa, and cedar. The finish was long and just as smooth as the palate showing minerals, spring flowers and a touch of cola.

Rating my second bottle of 2009. First was sometime 2014/15. This is so heavy, driven by deep dark cherry fruit and so much forest floor it reminds me of Brunello. Not as elegant as 2007 and 2008 vintages. But still very likable and I do like many of Eric’s wines (Terra Nuema, Dierke and his Riesling, namely)

Didn’t get to revisit with more air, but this seemed void of fruit with harsh earth notes.

Charming if a bit past its prime. Still, quite enjoyable.
