Old nebbiolo is magic. A little musty and tired at first, this went all Benjamin Button on us over the next five hours. Every sip was younger, brighter and fresher than the last, as the fruit and structure came out. By the end of the night, no way you would guess this was in its late 40s. Everything you could want in aged Barbaresco - cherry and tea and mushroom and enough structure to still hold its place on the palate. A great bottle.

An interesting foil to the 1978: more about litheness and allusiveness rather than power and bold flavors. Kirsch and red floral notes with undertones of earthiness and dried salami. Drink now.

Upon opening, appeared past prime and then all came together and got better. Very Burgundian, Gevrey. Cloudy, tart, petrol, spice. Paired extremely well with appetizers particularly with acids.
