This wine is quite dark in the glass and I fear the bottle may have been affected by volatile acidity - a bacterial problem which turns up in wine from time to time. The tipoff was a slightly medicinal smell, maybe like nail polish remover. However, after sitting a bit, the more expected aromas of dark fruit and trampled leaves overtook the problematic whiff. The alcohol came on strong in the sip, and the tannins definitely need time to smooth out.

My favorite from this winery tasting. Definitely big and brooding. No doubt it’s from California. The tannin and acid are nice. Dark berries, Rosemary. Really nice.
