Porta
Reserva Maipo Valley Carménère
Maipo Valley, Central Valley, Chile
Plummy nose from initial pour. Very good clarity, ruby red, moderate pigment extraction. Slight gut ethanol and seed tannin bitterness on finish initially. Needs time to open, say 30 minutes. Plum and red fruit flavors predominate with barrel wood and smoke on finish. Decent for an hour, nothing fancy here. Lactic acid emerges in finish after an hour, somewhat unpleasant after that.

I just love a Carmenère wine and this one is delicious. Dark purple in color with notes of dark fruits and some pepper. Very smooth finish.

-CORK TAINT- Stay tuned
Updated tasting notes:
Much better the second time. Dark purple in the glass, and harboring vegetal aromas, black tea leaf, cracked black pepper, and cherry syrup on the nose. The pallet was slightly off balance, showing more acidity, and exhibiting notes of stewed cherry, mineral, oak spice, nutmeg, and a smooth finish. Pairs well with meats.

Medium ruby to purple in color; green peppercorns , cherries, and dried herbs on the nose; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; tastes like raspberries, plums, and bell peppers with a long fruity finish. Nellie says it's ok. I like it. Paired really well with a steak.

Feb 23rd, 2024Damn tasty. Nicely balanced, soft tannins, a little fuller bodied than others I’ve had.
