Bright red. Very perfumed floral nose of red berries and minty herbs. High but harmonious acidity lifts and extends the strawberry, orange peel and mineral flavors on the long, vibrant back end. The wine ages roughly 24 months in 33-hL Slavonian oak casks. Scopetone’s Brunellos are always some of the shrillest, most taut and pristine wines made in all of Montalcino, though at times they could use just a touch more flesh. Going slowly down the Brunello rabbit hole. Probably opened too early, think this needs another 5-10 years for the tannins and acidity to soften and integrate. After a lot of time and aeration though, could start to see potential here. Very lean wine, bright acidity, a hint of sour cherry and raspberry left me wanting more body and fruit.
