Podere Scopetone

Aglieta Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2001

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. The 2001 pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core and slight rim variation; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe black and red fruits: ripe black and red brambles, Morello cherry, red flowers, tobacco, leather, dried herbs, star anise and other eastern spices, dried earth and some woody notes. On the palate, the wine is wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose where the fruit comes across a little more on the dried side. The finish is long. This is a fabulous example of the stellar 2001 vintage in Montalcino and still has a long life in front of it. Drink now through 2031. As a side note, this estate stopped producing wine after Roberto Aglieta passed away in 2008. They have since decided to lease the vines of Podere Scopetino. — 25 days ago
