Plumpjack
Estate Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Notes to come. But this is an awesome Christmas gift. The color hasn’t faded at all. I don’t even see any bricking at the edges. The nose has an Bordeaux like feel and smell to it—earthy with a backbone of dark fruit. There’s an Asian spice on the tongue with some bramble, cocoa and red and blue fruit. Tannins are well integrated but very present. Acidity in great balance. You can tell oak was used but it’s perfectly in line with everything else.

A classic older CA cab, this 2002 Plumpjack started off with a terrific nose of roasted black currants, leather, and cedar but surprisingly tannic for a 13-year-old wine. Evolved nicely in the glass over the course of 1-2 hours, then started to fade. Overall, a great example of a 2002 cab, but probably needs to be consumed within the next couple of years.
