One of the 1001 wines. The brilliance of Mesnil is on show in Les Chetillons - let’s not forget that two of the most prestigious Champagnes are from here too, Salon and Krug’s Clos de Mesnil. This is much more reasonably priced than those two. When poured this has a very fine bead with voluminous mousse. The colour of bright straw yellow. The palate had broad developed notes with mushroom and toasted hazelnuts in the aromas. After a while a delightful note of poached pear.

Always an incredibly terroir expressive, precise, laser focused and riveting expression of Chardonnay. I find 2014 to be even more giving than 2013 at this point. Its bouquet offers deep and penetrating yellow fruit with fresh white flowers, gun smoke and stony minerals. The palate shows great purity, tension and a powerful chalky mineral drive. Chetillons always a pleasure, and in 2014 Rodolphe has made another great one.

Always a favorite BdB. Glad to have snagged the last bottle from the great Marta Champagne list. The illustrious Le Mesnil produces what is likely the best expressions of Chardonnay in Champagne. The 2010 shows a bit more age than the 2009 I had recently, (therefore more ready to drink too), but it’s still very fresh and vibrant and in a terrific place showing great appeal, charm and rounded flavors. Zalto Bordeaux was the perfect vessel.

Insanely youthful! Could not believe how similar this drank to the 12 and 13’s. Ultra precise, linear and focused with a chalky minerality. Drinking very well now, but boy, this has a long life ahead.

Great tension, focus and precision with a sharp acid spine and intense minerality. But it lacks complexity and finishes abruptly. Still too young. Drink ‘11 even though not the best vintage while you wait for ‘12 and ‘13.
