On point, drinking perfectly but easily 20 years ahead of it

Dusty old bottle with a sunken cork that came out intact. Light amber, thin and translucent. Ripe cherries, cranberry, old wood, some rhubarb, a hint of menthol and some spruce tree in a powerful nose. Pleasant in the mouth with surprisingly rich fruit. Has the funk albeit an older kind. Fun wine to follow over an evening. The last 2 bottles of this were nowhere near as good. Pretty good 54 year old grape juice.

First bottle corked. Second has a 4 cm fill and confirms that the first bottle is off. Light brownish tawny color with amber rims. Translucent and old looking in the bowl. In the nose it offers cherries, some hickory wood, and earthy spice. With several hours of air this gets a little rough as the acidity and structure overwhelm what fruit remains. Still, a fun bottle and age of wine to compare everything else with. BDay dinner 6/12.

Phenomenal juice. No heat. Just entering drinking window, plenty of life ahead.

Didnt need a decant. Initial notes of dark ripe fruit and bramble, hints of leather. As it opened, brett came around to give spices and cloves to the black cherry. Nice acidity, very lovely tannins.

Difference of opinion at the table: one taster remarked at the youth of this wine; personally, I think it is past peak. Go figure...
