Gallina Barbaresco Nebbiolo

The 2018 Barbaresco Gallina is the most open-knit and forward of the three 2018 Barbarescos I tasted. Ripeness feels a bit pushed here, but it works nicely within the style of the wine. Super-ripe red cherry, sweet pipe tobacco, orange peel and exotic spice overtones build effortlessly as the Gallina shows off its racy, flamboyant personality. Goddamn. That shit is good. Just the right amount of extracted black peppercorns, cayenne and raisins washed in some bright cherry juice with a squeeze of sweet Meyer lemon with a backbone of stony granite. Drrrink itttt

An absolutely lovely style. Power and finesse which is so well balanced. This barbaresco is a fan favorite across the board. The 2016 is magnificent with ripe red fruit, mineral, sweet herbs, perfect oak influence and these silky, sexy sweet tannins that make the wine an absolute pleasure. Very well made! I’d love to experience other vintages of the Gallina to see how it ages and changes with time.
