Philipponnat
Grand Blanc Extra Brut Chardonnay
Blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay, 8 years of lees aging, fermented 47% in Oak, rest steel, with no MLF. Pale lemon color, light creamy mousse, tiny bubbles, with aromas of stone and citrus fruits, underlying toasty notes. Jun 10th, 2022Such a lovely, intense, and unique gold color in the glass with a plethora of minuscule bubbles. The nose takes a bit of time to fully blossom. Grapefruit initially with a dab of lemon zest and apple aromas. Fresh flowers and apricots. There’s a good bit of delicious bread as it welcomes more air along with butter and chalk. Magnificent.
With five centuries in the game, you would expect Philipponnant to be able to produce terrific bottles and I’m not disappointed. 100% Chardonnay and 100% first press juice from Grand and 1er Cru vineyards including the Clos des Goisses vineyard. The acidity is intense and the balance immaculate. Very linear, clean, and focused.
Almost 9 years on lees and disgorged in March of 2017 with an extra brut dosage of 4.5 g/l. The golden year of 2008 provides purity and freshness. The palate features incredible citrus and bread notes along with minerality. Long, clean finish leaves you wanting a magnum. Still a baby and has a long journey ahead of it but it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.

Rich golden straw color. Good aromas if green apples and fresh baked bread.. The sparkling bubbles were long lasting, with a long finish.
