Nov 11th, 2019Very bright, zippy and primary. On the nose lime and slate with a sherbets zest. Bright and punchy on the palate with tart acidity. Young but fun. Doesn’t have the substance of some of the more serious 08’s

Aug 5th, 2019The 2008 1522 is another compelling mid-tier wine in the Philipponnat range. Creamy, sensual and inviting, the 2008 is super-expressive today. Bright Chardonnay notes add energy to the Pinot fruit in an effortless, gracious Champagne. Orchard fruit, dried flowers, chamomile and lemon confit all resonate through to the finish. The blend is 58% Pinot Noir (from Aÿ and Verzenay) and 42% Chardonnay (from Cramant). Dosage is 4.25 grams per liter. Disgorged: July, 2018. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, July 2019)

May 18th, 2019Dégorgement Dec '13, Dosage 4.5g/l - This is something else, rich, estery, beautiful beurre de baratte notes, slight citrus rind, this has many years ahead of it, as the acidity is so in check for the vintage, outstanding,

Apr 12th, 2015A truly beautiful pale copper robe with effusive perlage and effervescence. Smelling this is an experience unto itself. The nose is intense with aromas of brown sugar, honeysuckle, and streaks of honey. Apples sprinkled with cinnamon and delicious baked bread. Cherries and cream with a dollop of mint. It just keeps going. A little aged cheese with dried earth just for good measure.
Named for the year that the Philipponnant family arrived in the village of Ay and still going strong, year in and year out. 70/30 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay, all from Grand Cru plots and first press juice. Aged for 8 years sur lie and disgorged in February of 2020 with an extra brut dosage of 4.5 g/l. Another case of an outstanding 2012 champagne, one that can last for years and years.
Racy acidity that does calm down over time with terrific structure and balance. A really nice level of complexity and drama here. The palate mirrors the nose with apples and honey with fresh cinnamon bread. Really quite vinous in nature, as well. An exciting and contemplative champagne from a prestigious house. I could drink this everyday.
