Closing the night with Penner-Ash. Had this upon its release at the winery. It shows nice evolution...rounder, elegant with softer spice.

The body is ruby, ripe & full. The wine is brooding on the nose & palate. It’s a well extracted, sweeter version of burgundy. Ripe, ruby; dark cassis, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, poached strawberries & hints of floral blueberries & raspberries. The spice is dark with a little heat, soft; clove, nutmeg & vanilla, mixed dark berry cola, black licorice, river stones, limestone, some crushed rocks, moist clay, dark, moist, turned earth, some fresh herbs & eucalyptus, pine tree sap, dark, melted chocolate with fresh & slightly candied; dark, red, blue flowers set in violets. The acidity is round and like a cool shower on a warm day. The long finish is ruby, ripe, well balanced, polished that falls into dark spices on the persistent long set.

Thanksgiving dinner part II.

On the nose, dark perfume fresh floral and mixed berries preserves. This is the more perfumed floral and elegant vs. the previous wines. This one dances on the palate and invites you to slow down and fully appreciate it. It's so lush, ripe and beautiful. Ripe, juicy to slightly dry blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, dark raspberries preserves, more warm spice and more pronounced baking spices, fresh violets, roses and near lavender florals, dark semi-sweet black moist earth/minerals, nice chalk and the acidity is perfect. The finish is round, long, lush & elegant. You'll want to drink this right away and all night long.

2019 vintage. Not as good as the fantastic 2017 vintage but this is not to be dismissed. Still plenty worthy with the fruit balance and the structure. 2017 had an extra, little tannic oomph. Maybe this grabs onto that, maybe it doesn't. Regardless, delicious on the usual Zena Crown Vineyard terms. Leaner and somewhat meaner. 5.1.24.

2017 vintage. This vineyard can be a little “touchy.” Penner-Ash can be a “soft touch.” This is a great “collab” with perfect tension between the fruit/softness of the Penner-Ash style and the ZCV punching power. Nearly something for everyone that gravitates towards Oregon Pinot. Phenomenal.

An excellent expression of the Willamette Valley. Beautiful acidity which melds nicely with red plum and baking spice hints on the palate. Life is good!
