Penfolds
Grange Hermitage Bin 95 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon
1986 vintage back in the day when Penfolds could add the word "Hermitage". Colour of a 5 year old vibrant red of dense dark Crimson. Nose of praline and cedar. On the palate tannins melting into the fruit. Amazingly powerful core which gives this wine the. Potential to last another 20 years and be a 50 year wine! Awesome concentration, balance and persistence - still with silky tannins. A Tour de Force! This was apparently the last vintage from Don Ditter who made many vintages. What a way to sign off!!

Apr 16th, 2014I had noticed slight leakage through cork and neck slightly reduced so let it settled for 10 days and doubled decanted and let stand for 7 hrs checking as time past
Gradually opened up and time in glass also important
Cedar pencil shavings and Balkan Sobranie Tobacco notes
Bottle odours eventually lifted and wine opened up beautifully but again patience is needed
Still evolving and enhanced by Beef Burgundian pie at New Year’s
Keeping a glass for tomorrow to see how it evolves further but very happy so far 😃

Its amazing what happens after you treat good people well. Gifted a glass of '86 Grange that went home in the satchel. Tannins completely resolved, tar, prune, rubber, tobacco. Super complex and lingering finish. Feeling thankful to have tasted '86 Grange twice
