Crimson with a tawny rim showing its 28 years of age. Mocha, red currant loam and spice aromas. Medium weight sweet spicy notes on the palate with resolved Tannins - Seamless! Lacks the fruit power to be a great Grange - just merely Very Good, particularly for the cool growing season in 1992. More elegant than a blockbuster like 83, 86, or 91. A classy wine whichever way you cut it.

1992 was a lighter year for Grange giving more herbal notes than full throttle berry. Medium weight with impeccable balance as always. Trademark choc malt with Liquorice notes. Interestingly in Penfolds book they normally over estimate the cellaring potential IMO particularly for the big years but for the 1992 they say thru to 2018 which I think is about right. Always an experience drinking a Grange. PS If you have any 1992s no need to urgently drink them. I have 2 or 3 left and will probably drink them in the next year or 2. Unlike the 1990 and particularly the 1991 which will cellar for a long time yet. Penfolds say through to 2040!

More a trademark Grange. Better than the more lauded 1990 IMO. The 1991 probably better than either. This 92 had typical Penfolds Choc Malt with raspberry notes. Rewards of Patience says to 2018 but on this showing will go beyond that.

Powerful and formidable, the 1992 Penfolds Grange was starting to lose some of its tannic edge. One of the world's most iconic wines! (October 2012, Blue Mountains, Australia) #penfolds #redwine #grange #australia #iconicwines
