Australian Cabernet line-up: Moving east to west, all the fruit in this one is from several areas in South Australia from one of the most iconic producers on the continent. Young, and Bordeaux in feel with bright red fruit tones on the nose, faintly minty, and dried herb. Unfortunately for me with the average retail on this one, I dont feel that it holds a torch to others from Australia or around the world in that price bucket. I have enjoyed the other upper level offerings from Penfolds such as the RWT Shiraz, but this one was just a little underwhelming. Maybe too young, but overall good effort.

Still drinking so young and without the astringency I usually associate with Oz Cabs. Nice, well knit.

Getting a bit of the vegetal green pepper ( capsicum as they say here). Leathery, dusty cocoa and firm tannins.

I love the nose on this wine deep rich dark currant and cassis with violets and blackberries. The wine has excellent structure and is showing well already and should drink amazingly over the next 10-15 years.

Robust and full-bodied cab. Heavy mouthfeel. Ripe black fruit on the nose with some anise and oak. Mild spice and earth notes on the palate.

Fantastic with food. Decanted for two hours. Deep dark color. Rich flavors. Mild tannins. Lengthy finish. Will look for this one again.

OK Delectable family: what do you call that moment after dessert and cheese when you stumble down to the cellar and ponder, "how do I go to the next level" when nobody can even level the table? We need a name for it, as that's where I was when Dan took my hand off the Henschkes in a "please put the weapon down slowly" mumble. Thankfully he aimed it at this pleasant, potent, young jammy 407 Cab that, as I can best recall, did a damned good job evoking a young Napa Cab. I think I said Round Pond? Ignore the score it's a hazy guess, but thanks Dan - we need a term for cellar friends like that, too!

2013 vintage, still too young to drink now, well balanced from start to end, but a bit flat finish, tiny hint of fruit. Medium tannin.
