Pax Mahle Wines
North Coast Syrah
Really great wines from Pax. So much Northern Rhône influence.

Dec 7th, 2020Subjectively speaking it’s a higher score. I love the lean-fruited old-world style. only 12.6% alc. plum, olive, baked raspberry. I think it would be beautiful in 10-15yr.

Jul 20th, 2020Phenomenal bang for your buck. Savory purple fruit super complex and not lean despite sub 13% abv. Paired with leg of lamb.

May 3rd, 2020Sheer drinkability is up there! Great blend of the northern Rhône and California Syrah. Yum! Definitely unfiltered.

Feb 10th, 2020Kirsch cherry liqueur. Redwood. Fruit and acidity. Good texture but medium minus body. Will age well. Beautiful now.

THIS Syrah is breakfast wine, but for completely different reasons. First, the nose: maple syrup covered breakfast griddle sausage. Then, as you slurp it on down, the mouth is completely crispy meaty maple bacon with a French roast coffee finish. You can practically crunch the grinds in your teeth, it’s so chewy. And when I say maple, this juice is by no means sweet, but all essence. Yep, I’d have this for breakfast. Errr, with breakfast. Move over latte, you’ve been replaced!

1 person found it helpfulSep 30th, 2021The 2019 Syrah North Coast is superb. A boisterous, forward wine, the North Coast Syrah is loaded with inky dark fruit, chocolate, mint, licorice, spice and menthol. The North Coast was done 100% whole clusters and aged in a combination of concrete and neutral oak. It comes across as a bit riper in profile than most of the Pax Syrahs, but for a wine meant to be enjoyed young, who cares? (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)
