Pax Mahle Wines
Eastern Ridge Syrah

Aging well. Drink in the next 3-5. Game, mineral, noticeable tannins.

The misses had a girls night out so had to go for something older and funky. Big minerals on the nose. Palate is like a bloody smoked steak dusted with rust and wrapped in bacon. Can’t believe it’s balanced and not hot at 15.5%. Pax is one of the only producers that can do that with so much alcohol IMO.

Still a little hard, the fruit didn’t otlast the tannins, good but a little austere

One of the single vineyard offerings from Pax Mahl's winery (before he and Joe Donlan parted ways), this syrah has evolved nicely over the past decade. Doesn't possess the depth of Griffin's Lair nor the intensity of Obsidian, but is still a nice example of the type of syrah one finds in the warmer parts of Russian River. Probably still has a few years of life left, but I suspect it's starting on its decline so I'd recommend drinking this sooner rather than later.
