Hidden at first, a 2 hour decant unveils a strong beauty. Aromatics lift almost effortlessly carrying roses, dark fruit jam, blackberry pie, licorice, tar, and herb bouquet, consistent through to the long finish. Great structure, light tannins, and a solid acid backbone pair this well to the right dish. Makes you want to eat a great stew in the forest on a fall day. We just skipped the forest part.

There is no question winemaker @Pax Mahle is one of California's Syrah kings. Perched high on Mendocino's Cahto Ridge, the Alder Springs vineyard is a benchmark site for the grape, delivering the classic notes of dark brambly fruit, smokey game meat, briney black olives and savory spice.
