Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Domaine de Roure Crozes Hermitage Syrah
2016 vintage. From a 3,5 hectares vineyard planted with 60 years old Syrah vines on steep slopes with granite soils. This is as good as Crozes-Hermitage gets, tasting more like a Hermitage. Interestingly it feels somewhat light on its feet, even if it has serious concentration, combining elegance and power. Layered black juicy fruit, intense minerality and a panoply of spices with an impressively long mineral finish. Another terrific Jaboulet wine. Abv. 13,5 %.

Nov 18th, 20222012 vintage. Old vine Syrah ( 60+ years) on granite soils on very steep slopes. Much more intense and mineral compared to the 2012 Thalabert tasted alongside ( as reflected in the higher price tag). Profound, intense and long, this could be mistaken for Hermitage. A terrific wine from a vintage that remained under the radar Abv. 13,5%.

Feb 13th, 2020At first, was thinking newish world, but as it opened it reveled all of its old world charm. Med plus bodied, dark fruits, sausage, leather, pepper, slate minerality and lots of acid to back up the weight.

Jan 6th, 2017A bit young but has some serious potential. Smoky and savory with bright fruit and some real tannic backbone. Drinks well above its price tag. One of the best bargains in the Rhone and a great example of Old World Syrah.
