Paul Hobbs
Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Beautiful fruit expression from a tough vintage. Nice amount of Brett and very good barrel choices - just enough.

Dec 12th, 2022In. The. Zone. By the time I got to this, it had been in the bottle about an hour or so...poured dark purple in to the glass with a black core. Big aromas of violets, baked mixed berry pie, and some graphite/minerals. Dense without overwhelming on the palate...sweetened blue and black fruit, nutmeg and a mint-like finish (a bit reminiscent of American oak?). Awesome texture.

Jul 14th, 2019Always a treat. Much bigger wine with more tannin than the 2007. Dried berry, herbs and dusty aromas. Good stuff!

Dec 10th, 2017This is what Napa Cabernet is meant to be. Mint, molasses, cigar box, green pepper, stewed blackberry and black cherry, and sweet baking spices.

Feb 10th, 2017The best wine from a case I split with my best friend way back in 2003. As most familiar with Stagecoach will know, the tannin is dense and tight in youth and needs many years to mellow out. This wine is proof of that!
Deeply red and ruby colored, the nose is immediately open and expressive of what Napa is all about in expressing a ripe and fresh cherry, currants, with a few tertiary notes in the background of cigar wrapper and forest floor.
The tannin are silky and completely refined, totally integrated into the wine.

Delicious but I'm disappointed. Drinking great but somewhat one dimensional.

Jun 17th, 2016True to form the scorched earth and Graves like notes are on full display here, I always enjoy this wine with a few years and 10 seems perfect. A deep and clean nose of blackcurrant, black cherry, charcoal scorched earth and pencil shavings. The palate is clean and pronounced, with deep flavors and persistence. Excellent acidity this is one of the best Stagecoach for me ever. Drinking really well now, this can still go another 5-7 or more years.
