Happy Friday everyone. Today's wine is the 2014 Paul D. Zweigelt from Austria. This is the first time I have had Zweigelt and what an experience. It is definitely different.

The wine has a beautiful nose. I could have mistaken this for a Pinot Noir at first and as it opened up became more gamay like. There is strawberry, cranberry, red raspberry, clove, candied cherry, and asparagus.

On the palate you are almost over powered by the tart/sour component. I am sure if I left this to open up longer some of this tartness would calm down. There is tart cherry almost like cherry sour patch candies without the sweet part, tart cranberry, tart raspberry, clove and asparagus.

This is a medium to full bodied wine with medium acidity, medium + Sandy tannins that lead to a medium long finish and the tartness hangs in there too. You have really got to like the tart in order to get close to this one. There is something about it that I do enjoy. Have a super weekend and please keep those in the fire ravaged wine region of the Napa Valley in your thoughts and prayers. Be safe everyone. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷

Pepper, red fruit, medium-light body. Multifaceted finish. Surprising value. Drink Austria!

Dark ripe fruit, peppery spice and modest tannins. A delicious house wine.

Love this light red! Highly aromatic, light tannins and crisp acid. Similar to a northern Italian schiavia or brachetto. $14

Juicy on the front but mellows out. Tart finish. Very nice. Easy to drink.
