What a deal/qpr -& released with some age. Persistent cherry life savers, some gamey notes. I used a big ol Pinot Noir glass for first time, kinda fun. Day 2 notes: so much deeper & nuanced, with the cherry life savers giving way to a meatier, meaner body. The QPR is now glowing.

A bit muted compared to other Santenays that I’ve had, but paired well with grilled wild mushrooms.

Aromatic with bright acidity, still has maintained fruit with notes of strawberries and red cherries and exotic spices on the finish

Elegant & fragrant '01 Santenay, and a total steal on the list at the new @sohmbar in NYC.

2001 vintage- still almost tight upon opening but became really supple and multi-dimensional.

Dirty, earthy with figs - well balanced and a super value for a Burgundy

Perhaps not a powerball-winning wine but pretty darn good nonetheless.

2001 Paul Chapelle Santenay "Graviéres" 1er Cru - Well balanced and holding up nicely. Irony mineral, flinty red cherry, orange peel, hay and mushroom, with medium acid and med(-) tannins. Did well with shitake mushrooms sautéed in goat butter and sweet vermouth served over the Osso Bucco. Enjoyed over a 4 hour period with hard salami and Calabrese as well and it never lost its integrity or tried to close up. Drink now and enjoy.
