Prapò Barolo Nebbiolo
Prapò may not be particularly well known but its location in Serralunga d’Alba, directly below Cerretta, should be a good indication of its quality and potential. That being said, there are only a half dozen producers making Prapò today.
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2020 pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with a mix of tart and ripe, predominately red fruits: raspberries, Maraschino cherries, strawberry, along with whole peaches, roses, green herbs, stony minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. The orchard peach character shows a bit more prominently here while the rest of the palate seems a bit taciturn, maybe even austere. The finish is medium+. Quite a treat, if not a touch cerebral. Drink now with patience through 2040.

Cherry, leather, crushed dried herbs (like on the stale end). Bone-sand dry on the finish, it’s like having dust coat my taste buds. Pet a Cirneco dell'Etna while drinking.

Nov 22nd, 2022Robbing the cradle, but so delicious 🤤 captures the best of Serralunga but with a sense of generosity. Classy, structured, power and elegance in harmony even at this stage in its life. More time would certainly bring more complexity, but with leg of lamb roast this was killer. Rose petal, exotic spices, dried flowers, eucalyptus, black cherries, clove, camphor and limestone.

Nov 25th, 2019Wow, cherries! Nice tannins, provides great balance. Still finished with the great miners notes. Smooth for a Barolo this young.
This is delicious. Glad I have more in the cellar.
