Flight #1 of our 1997 Retrospective. Presented single-blind; no formal notes. Noticeably darker, bluer-fruited than the others in the flight. Plush and more rounded fruit profile. Structure still there. Arguably the most youthful of the flight since not all of the fruit is in the desiccated stage. Certainly the most modern of the flight. Called “Pahlmeyer”. Drink now through 2027.

To me the ‘02 North Coast vintage was one of the best early drinkers I can recall. Just amazing vibrancy from the top producers. At age 17 this was very nice but lacked pop and fell off obviously on the mid palate. Drink now. Pop and pour.

Big, tobacco leaf nose leads a full and layered smooth cocoa palate. This needs time but will go from great to outstanding.

Part 1 of the final and main event for the Fall WNH. The most spectacular lineup of wines I’ve ever seen, and an overall wonderful ending to an amazing trip with fantastic people.

One of the best older Napa wines I’ve had. Astounded at how the flavor profile shows such dark notes of both fruit and secondary notes. Muddled raspberries and underripe black cherry. Pipe tobacco, currant and a touch of leather. Incredible structure on the palate and while tannins and acid have mostly integrated, this is years away from a full decline. Bravo,
@Bill Bender !

A big one. Loads of dark and red fruit. Long finish.

Always well above the waterline. Needs time. Lacking the depth and complexity that I’ve come to expect from this winery. Still very strong, but with time, I’m hoping it’s gonna step up into a heavier weight class. Mixing metaphors, but you get the point.
