Outpost
True Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
Flowers for my soulmate.
Outpost for her, too (well, I’m being somewhat economical with the truth on the Outpost! 😌).
It’s daunting in the glass. On the palate, it’s masculine and dense. Lovely fruit profile of dark mature cherries, infused with coffee, and a hint of sage. Tannins are ripe and prominent. This will further improve with age.

Big and beautiful. Layered and layered, blackberry syrup and mixed blue and black fruit. One of those wines where it’s texture and mouthfeel alone will warm you on a cold rainy day.

Dec 19th, 201909 wasn’t my favorite vintage from them. This needs a few hours of decanting. Didn’t do that...time wasn’t on my side. -at Manta -Mauna Kea, Hawaii

Aug 17th, 2019Wow, an amazing wine. Not the 100 points Parker gave it but still excellent. Lots of blueberry on the nose and first sips. I could get use to this!

Aug 6th, 2019We finished day one in Napa at Outpost. I had to speed take notes on the True. We were about 10-15 minutes late and I could sense our host was ready to go home. Seven wines do take a little time. Especially, with me taking notes. I wished I had more time to be as detailed as I like. Some of these wines were quite good and deserved some more time & focus.
On the nose; jammy dark cassis, blackberries, dark cherries, plum, creamy black raspberries, strawberries.
Same fruits on the palate. Dark soils, dry crushed rocks, limestone minerals, berry cola, leather, wood plank, black pepper, violets, and purple flowers. Acidity is excellent and the polished, balanced finish goes on and on. Beautiful wine!
Photos of, their Zinfandel vines as viewed from their patio, the soil composition of the True Vineyard, Outpost grounds shot through an old wagon wheel and their tasting patio on beautiful sunny Howell Mountain day.

Dense, high extract, very polished, rich and viscous. Packed with ultra ripe blue and black fruits, sweet oak, exotic spices, cocoa. Tannins are ripe and suave without having the muscular nature like ‘13, they still show the ‘14 vintage in their graceful character. Did not really get the Howell Mtn mineral note I usually find, perhaps too young to express it?

Nov 16th, 2018Another 4th Friday for the books!
Sweet, cranberry and blackberry fruit. Comes across so young! Fresh squeezed blackberries, currant and plum on the nose. Dense without being extracted. Crunchy granite and gorgeous acidity at this age.

Needs time! Decanted for two hours. Wait a few years.
