Orin Swift
Mannequin California Chardonnay
Surprised with how much I love the nose. Brandy soaked pears, toasted marshmallow, and loads of pineapple. Palate a bit viscous and oily, & the finish doesn't quite stick the landing, but elevates with lemon butter and whitefish.

Jul 13th, 2017Crazy label and a crazy blend...what to be expected from Orin Swift Cellars. The white wine blend called "Mannequin" is really quite delicious! (48% Chardonnay, 14% Sauvignon Blanc, 12% Grenache Blanc, 12% Viognier, 8% Marsanne, 4% Roussanne and 2% Muscat...whew!). #orinswift #davephinney #mannequin

Has a buttery texture, but with the floral notes of a white Rhone, and enough acidity to cut through that thick mouth feel to make way for a nice finish. The last 30 seconds give a tour of a tidy hayloft. Orin Swift is one of my "hero" labels, and this lives up to the esteem in which I hold them.
Paired with basil grilled halibut and sauteed tomatoes, onions, and peppers. I'd give the pairing a 9.5; this wine adores food, and white fish has to be one of its favorites.

Nice white blend. There is depth to this wine. On the palette it taste sweet with hints of peaches and other stone fruits. I cans taste cotton candy.

First time trying this.
Marzipan and almonds on the nose. Warm, inoffensive presentation on the palette. It’s viscous with pineapple and peach, finishing with light sherry notes. I’m surprised to be honest as I was expecting something in the distinctly average category.

Orin Swift’s 2013 Mannequin was notable because it received 96 points from Robert Parker, which might be akin to Michelin giving a fast-casual restaurant a star. More shocking, to me, though, was that he used the term “full-throttle” three times in his review. And while agree, it is indeed full-throttle, I’ll only use it once. Tropical, but with a lemon juice and menthol edge. Mouth coating chalk leads into the antiseptically clean finish. Interesting, but not inspiring.
