Chambave Vallée d'Aoste Fumin Petit Rouge
Delicious, but quite the departure from the style of wine from this region I am used to.
Medium to medium+ body, More fruit forward with the typical bitters you find in petit rouge (95%).

95% Petit Rouge, 5% Fumin. So fragrant right out of the gate. Violets, crisp tiny purple mountain berries, scraped stones frozen in glacier ice. Impressive! In the mouth it’s medium bodied, smooth as silk, and nicely balanced. Tons of flavor in a lithe package. Black cherry leads off, but then things get stony and end savory with a hint of bitter herbs. Very distinctive.

Nose has crunchy dark berry, walnut, crushed rock, and violet. A little like Loire Cab Franc but friendlier and less pungent. Palate shows lots of flavor in a light-footed frame. Deep, crisp, stone-inflected, ripe, dark berry fruit. Nice balance.
