Elysian Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
The last time I had this was at The French Laundry trying to convince someone to support a nonprofit I love. The subsequent gift was generous but, somehow, underwhelming. This wine is like that. A great vintage, a great vineyard, in great hands, but it had so much more potential. I’m not whining about a 97-point wine; I’m lucky to enjoy it. But it could’ve been even more.

Dec 8th, 2024I’ve been fortunate enough to have multiple vintages of this offering from @Mike Smith and this one by far is a standout! Has opulence, voluptuousness and seamless layers that make this offering a homerun! All the elements are covered...fruit, earth, espresso, smoke and exotic perfume. When the wine hits your palate, that's where it really shines, due to its liqueur like texture and silky, sensuous finish that goes on well past the 60 second mark.

Jan 12th, 2019Deep purplish red and coats the glass. Layered nose with blueberries, minerality, floral, sweet spices, cassis, and black fruits. Medium plus (6.5/10) and full bodied. Rich and powerful palate with blue fruits, crushed gravel, cinnamon, and vanilla. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2032. (95+)

This was slow to open but by the time the ref stopped the fight in the 10th it was accelerating like a Bugatti Chiron. Opulent hedonism. Substantial sexy mouthfeel, licorice, dark grainy fruit.

Aug 27th, 20173rd night since pulling the cork. Red currant and dark cherry abound. Purity, purity, purity, what a great mouthfeel to this wine. Rich but not as dense as the RM Panek. Leaning to a dark red berry profile, creamy with a touch of cedar and tar. Exceptional balance with not a hint of the 15.1% alc. Very layered, long and satisfying. Just a tremendous bottle of wine.
