Muir Wood
Vaquero Vineyard Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
Cheers to my Friday's Cabernet fix.
This Central Coast Cabernet, is deep purple in color with short purplish rim.
Nice nose of black currants, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, cola, cedar, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, leather, spices and peppercorn.
Full bodied (but not bold), with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with plums, black currants, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, herbs and black pepper.
Medium plus in finish with round tannins, tangy cranberries and spices.
This California Cabernet is drinking nicely now, with mild complexity and nice balance. This Single Vineyard is showing a nice tangy finish that makes it interesting.
Needs an hour to open up properly, but drinking nicely right out of the bottle. Will drink well in the next few years. Definitely a good value Cabernet.
Enjoyable by itself or with food. I paired it with a steak on the grill, by the pool.
Aged for 15 months in French and American Oak barrels.
14.3% alcohol by volume.

1 person found it helpfulJan 1st, 2016Excellent Cabernet for < $20. Heavily oaked with hints of chocolate and vanilla along with ripe, dark fruits and a round medium body. Never seems overly tannic. I would feel comfortable recommending this to any red wine drinker looking to explore textbook oak flavors in a value cab.
