100% Blaufrankisch fermented with 30% whole cluster, aged 2 years in wood barrique.
A project of Dirk Niepoort, his partner Dorli Muhr who's family owns the vineyards and makes the wines with help originally from the owner and winemaker at Veyder-Malberg. I only found this out after visiting with Peter Malberg in the Wachau this past September. The wine world can seem really small sometimes!
The wine itself reminded me a lot of a Chinon or Saumur-Champigny, bright red fruits with lots of pepper spice, tobacco and crunchy acids. The tannin was medium grain and in combination with the fresh acids provided a rigid and snappy structure.

Pale garnet colour. Clean nose displaying expressive aromas of ripe strawberry, ripe dark cherry, lavender, violets, cedar and hints of anise.

Light-bodied and dry with a nervy acidity, there's tension in the palate as well as harmony provided by its juicy flavours and soft silky texture. The finish lingers showing elegance and completely.

Quite a nice wine, a very interesting and surprising light interpretation of Blaufränkisch.

A very interesting but also super "exhausting" wine. Minimalistic, austere, steely with nearly no fruit (very unusual for this vintage). Good acidity, lots of herbs, strong steely finish. Very, very hard to rate this bad boy. Surely better with food.

Rich red and blue fruits, baking spices and tomato leaf nose. Rich jammy blackberries, black plum, blueberries, black raspberries, tomatoes, tomato leafs, black tea, spice, just a touch of baking spices, crushed mineral and rich black earth.

An example of how well this wine ages. Already a burgundy stink coming through on the nose, though this is not Pinot. One of Austria's great reds.

Dorli Muhr's top Blau is getting better with every vintage. Elegant and mineral, and still young.
