Mount Eden’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon represents the essence of what Cabernet Sauvignon is all about in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Deep, powerful and explosive, the 2016 simply has it all. A wine of tremendous depth and intensity. Readers, take note. This is world class Cabernet Sauvignon that in any other region would cost 2-3 times as much. Savory and expansive, with tons of mountain character and remarkable richness from low yields in 2016, the Cabernet Sauvignon is simply off the charts. It’s another utterly breathtaking wine from Mount Eden. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020)

Foxy, animal nose of black currant, brambles and quinine. Such pretty aromas. Really light, almost ethereal on the palate. Tart and structured, with delicate tannins brushing the finish, and a wonderful saltiness. Super harmonious.

2016 vintage. Mount Eden Vineyards wine dinner @Mister A’s Restaurant-San Diego. Decanted and tasted after opening and after 4hrs. Opening notes showing the baker’s pantry and a distinctive, crumbled Graham cracker vibe along with plenty of baby fat and meandering. Fast forward four hours…wine had dropped all the above and gained actual structure along with some richness, cinnamon (more the heat than the flavor) and darker fruit components. Still needs a decade plus but coming along and all the building blocks are slowly being laid in place. A small chance this wine is the best Cabernet JP has ever made. Have had more than a few (including the Old Vine Reserve (that 1991 tho, 1990 didn't suffer either)-no longer made-through the '90's) in the 90’s and 00’s laying down defined, kick-*ss parameters. 4.20.23.

2016 vintage. Still tight but delicious. 3rd bottle tasted in the last 7 months. In a little bit of a dumb phase right now. Give it at least 5 years.

World class - what California Cabernet should be about. Rustic in style. Intense and concentrated, deep and complex. Lush dark fruit, blueberry, but with a savory foundation of tobacco, mint, spice, earth, and a minerally finish that just lingers and lingers. Brilliant.

2016 vintage. Hard to escort the palate past the oak currently and not smart/patient enuff to decant.

I mean, yeah it’s good, but I am not getting the gaggle of crazy high reviews. Someone tell me what I’m missing? Bottle aging?
