Mount Eden Vineyards
Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon
Deep fruit. A touch of tang. Some tobacco and dried herbs. Iron and deep fruit. So young given its age. Quite intense. Soulful. Excellent

Sep 11th, 2024The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is going to need a number of years to come around. The only question is how many. In 2017, the Mount Eden Cabernet is shockingly opulent. Inky black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice, leather and incense are all dialed up in this super-sized Cabernet. Even so, there is plenty of structure lurking beneath. I can't wait to see how this ages. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2022)

Pyrazine city. Super Bordeaux like but far too underripe on this vintage.

Dec 23rd, 2021Mount Eden’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon represents the essence of what Cabernet Sauvignon is all about in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Deep, powerful and explosive, the 2016 simply has it all. A wine of tremendous depth and intensity. Readers, take note. This is world class Cabernet Sauvignon that in any other region would cost 2-3 times as much. Savory and expansive, with tons of mountain character and remarkable richness from low yields in 2016, the Cabernet Sauvignon is simply off the charts. It’s another utterly breathtaking wine from Mount Eden. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2020)

Deep ruby. Intense cherry, black currant, crushed rock and spring flowers waft from the glass. In the mouth blackberry, cherry pie, kirsch, mocha and black pepper mingle with balance, rigid structure and finesse. The finish is long with energetic tannins.

Sep 11th, 2019This Santa Cruz Mountains AVA trip in San Jose was so much fun. We got really lucky and booked both Ridge and Mount Eden on the same day. In my opinion they are the two best representations of wine produced on this AVA. Unique dirt, grape growing, wine making and history.

Mar 28th, 2018Interesting stage where black fruit is still prevalent on the nose but it’s also oxidative. Still lots of acid. Surprisingly really picked up after opening
