What a wine. Just a gorgeous nose. Licorice. Really intense licorice. Red. Spice. Bowls and bowls of mid season red cherries. Pepper. Some purple sag fruit but also plummy merlot scents. Palate is rich and ripe with delicate and graceful tannins and lovely licorice and cherry fruit. Fresh and energetic. Terrific palate presence and compactness. Juicy and so well made. Awesome.

Jun 30th, 2020Castor is not impressed but I am! Luckily I pick the wines. Lovely nose of licorice, spice, deep back fruits, anise, red licorice, terrific lift to the aromas. Deep, rich and ripe with amazing purity and freshness. Lovely cut to the tannins. Good length. Black fruits, spice and licorice. Lovely.

Nose has ripe black cherry, black licorice, ripe plum, but a little hot (13.5%) even after about one hour decant.
Palate has mellow, yet ripe cherry, coats your mouth, but still the alcohol is distracting.
Maybe another year, or a full day of airing out.

24 Hour Update: Alcohol heat has mostly disapated on the nose, palate is still mellow but picking up a savory herb note to the mid palate.

An exceptional value. Just a very fun - maybe joyful, even - wine to drink. Great balance, great fruit, nice finish with good acid. Not overly complicated, but very enjoyable and a nice pairing with homemade pizzas.
