Always worth having a bottle on the shelf -

Lightly Smoked green pepper, a wonderful nose.
Heavier bodied with some green tabaco, pepper, hints of Thai basil, oregano, rounded out with older staves and high licorice acidity.
This winery never disappoints.

Sipping Fine Wine

1988 was the firstbrelease of Montes Alpha wine when Montes became one of the first premium wineries in Chile. Today Aurelio Montes continues leading the winemaking effort. A blend of 90% Syrah, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon & 3% Viognier. Very dark red with aromas of berry fruit and cedar spice notes. On the palate blueberry and cherry flavors with cacao, leather and vanilla oak. Fine tannins, medium+ finish ending with toasty spice. Nice value.

Powerful aromas of black olives and dark chocolate jump out of the glass with subtler notes of salted caramel and bacon grease - little to no fruit on the nose, but I was in the mood for that kind of flavor profile. Creamy M+ body with grippy drying tannins, and medium acid. Some stewed black fruits shows up on the mid palate & finish but plays a minor role overall. Best vintage of this wine I have had to date, and a great value to be sure.

One of my all-time favorite wines but nearly impossible to find for reasons passing understanding. Have not had in several years. A notch below but still fabulous. Lots of lush, ripe blackberry fruit with leather and bacon fat. Supportive but silky tannins add interest to this well-structured wine. One to always have on hand if you can find it, but you have to want this.
