Montes
Classic Series Colchagua Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Cocoa powdered blackberries.
This wine evolves, as a good wine should, with every sample. This vintage worked incredibly well with the ripeness of the fruit, and the craftpersonship of the juice.
Dark chocolate walks hand in hand with touches of saline, green pepper stalk, and that incredible terroir that only Chile knows. And the cost? Appropriate for those who make quality wines in multiple tiers.

Surprisingly great inexpensive cab. Rich, spicy (cinnamon, hints of oak) with a touch of plum. But you have to try this trick (learned from Costco employee). Open the bottle and pour a glass. Cork it (or seal it if you can) and have it the next night. It's pretty awesome. Enjoy!

Really wanted to like this - drank Montes over 15 years ago and found them a great value (along w/Catena in Arg) but this was disappointing and I fear they are producing too many lines. This was real tight out of the chute and very funky - not in an endearing Gevrey barnyard way, slowly evolved showing muted cherry aromas but an awful lot of rubber, black olive, tar, green/vegetal, and other unappetizing notes. Tannins were disjointed leading to a harsh finish. Maybe I got an off bottle, but I bought 2 so I’ll update.

Not sure why this is rated relatively low, as the 2014 vintage was exceptional (and ranked in the top 50 of Wine Spectator’s Best of 2016 list). Big aromas of cigar box and hard candy, mouth-watering tastes of strawberry jam, cedar and caramel... and most astonishingly, it retails for $15. Get some - now!

Aaahh smooth. Light on tannin, nice grape and earth flavors, just a bit shallow.
