Sipping Fine Wine

This 50 acre vineyard was planted in 1995 by Gary Franscioni and Gary Pisoni along the terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, overlooking the Salinas River Valley. Light Ruby with aromas of red fruits and baking spice. On the palate cherry, raspberry and gentle smoky oak flavors come forth. Tannins are rich, well balanced on a Medium+ finish.

Very light color and lean...like certain Burgundians. However, the flavor style is certainly Californian. The fruits are lightly stewed and a touch sour. Strawberries, cherries, plum, hints of rhubarb, lots of spice, backing spices but it's new oak use seems light, nutmeg, light dry brown earth with nice chalk and acidity. But to me, it simply wasn't all that compelling. Especially, given the price point.
