TASTE: dark juicy fruit and licorice … plus a tiny bit of vanilla from the oak. The French equivalent of American-Italian jug wine, but a hair better - and definitely better than typical cheap American merlot. 86. I think this was $6 (?) so well worth it.

Black fruit and a touch of oak comprise this French Merlot. It’s a little bit more robust and less smooth than expected but not tannic either. Very tasty with steak and better after aerating.

Basic and likable label. Decent deep color. Shades of maroon and some purples too. Smells like toasted wheat products, berries in cream or custard and just a hint of a gamey meat with fresh herbs. Flavors are juicy, tart and fleshy. Nice bittersweet streak. Euro flavors of strange berries like cassis, elder and red currant. Hint earthy like good damp soil. This is a nice little cheapie from the South. (PAYS D’OC). I’d go for this any weeknight.
