Blackberry, mocha, raspberry, currant, licorice, oak and hints of dried sage. Excellent structure and velvety tannins.

The Sharp Sisters red is inky purple, with a nose of big, black fruit and quite a savory side. I smell cigar box, spice rack and cedar plank on the nose, in addition to the plums and blackberries. The palate comes on less brawny that expected given the high-octane alcohol number. It's a pleasant array of black and blue fruit that is remarkably smooth, yet it's tannins are muscular enough to sit with a ribeye.

All those months in wood show up as soon as the glass is under the nose. Ripe red fruit and sweet oak notes explode in a showy perfume. There’s more. Smoke, forest floor and a boatload of spices - cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg. On the palate we have amazing fruit, and why not? The merlot and Syrah handle that heavy lifting well enough. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives structure and focus. Additional complexity from the Sangiovese and Petit Verdot equal an embarrassment of riches.

I really like the name and the branding. It's buttery and smooth, well balanced, but not overly impressive.

A hint of sweetness and tart berries. A quick dry finish.

Aromas of plums, blackberries, black olives, and vanilla with other spices. It smells sticky. On the palate it’s rich and full bodied with a good salty savoriness and sweet, sticky tannin. There’s flavors of plums, raspberries, blackberries, vanilla, black pepper, and green peppers. What a fruit bomb with intriguing additions. It finishes with blackberries, vanilla, and that salty savoriness.

Monday night $5 closeout face off. $65 total list, with current retail around $50.

The most complete wine and the clear winner. Cassis, plum, tobacco, and cinnamon. Balanced by comparison and a very easy drinker with a distinct character about it.

This medium to full body wine is the right pick after a full day's hard work. A meal in itself, it is perfect if you're planning on drinking while relaxing with a loved one. Note before purchasing: This wine is definitely a bit on the sweet side.
