Because of 70% stem inclusion you get a little forrest floor with blueberry - tannins are still persistent.

In 1989, Melville Vineyards, founded in Sonoma, where Ron Melville grew high quality, Chard, Merlot, and Cab Sauv. In 1996, Ron's desire to grow Pinot Noir brought Melville to Lompoc's Sta. Rita Hills, in Santa Barbara. Ruby, complex aromas of red fruits, spice and earthy notes. Palate shows cherry & plum with cola & tea notes, a bit of leather & spice. Ripe tannins, lingering ending with great mouthfeel and balanced with acidity. Will cellar well!

Re last tasting. It was the bottle. Or perhaps bottle shock. This was terrific. Lots of cherry, earth, and baking spice. Fuller-bodied with supple tannins and a memorable finish. California style.

Please excuse the label damage. I have no excuse. I love Melville. So underrated. Super excited to find at Costco. I did not love this. Maybe it was the bottle. Have another one; will report back.

Absolutely gorgeous. We picked this up from the winery last October and it definitely benefited from the year-long wait. Very smooth and the finish keeps going. Intoxicating smells of hibiscus and grilled game.... a hefty mouthful of blood orange... black tea and peppercorns to finish it off. Looking forward to the 2016.
