Third red to sample from Mayo Family Winery. Dark and deep ruby red almost black. A little stinky on the nose to start, with some savory and gamey notes. Slight undertones of cassis. Lots of cherries on the palate, with a rustic twist to it. Rustic as in earthy and woody. Moderate tannins (7/10) with a good amount of acidity, not unbalanced. Moderate body with a slightly dry moderate plus finish. Drink till 2023.

For one of my favorite fun family wineries, this was a bit of a disappointment. This one was overwhelmingly fruity with heavy jam notes to it. It was a very sweet wine that didn't tone down with time, which didn't let other flavors develop in the bottle. even the heavy food I had couldn't stand up to its taste. it's like going out with one of those girls who just got into college and thinks that wearing too much perfume with a name like "vanilla frosting" makes her attractive. Even after you get her out of your truck the scent lingers for longer than you'd like.
