Matthiasson is so generous— seems like at each tier of their family’s releases everything should cost twice as much. Perfect pop and pour Cabernet and that’s a damn hard thing to find it seems. Sweet blackberry aromas laced through tangier just-ripe red and black fruit, spicy red pyrazines, lip-smacking acid. $30.

Great balance on this entry level from Matthiason. Features the green notes of Cabernet with restrained fruit concentration, ample acidity, and oak spice. Would be great with sirloin or roast beef.

This is such a cool Napa Cab, med plus body, med alcohol (13%), high acidity. But still a proper Cab. It’s elegant and well structured with bright fruit. So so pure, drinks well while young.

Steve Matthiasson’s wines are different.
His take on a “simple Napa Cab” is anything but; pure, restrained, and quietly confident, driven by freshness, savory detail, and a sense of place rather than power. It’s Napa Cabernet spoken in a lower register, yet it still feels loud on the palate.
So impressed.
