Matthiasson
Red Hen Vineyard Merlot
A superb wine. Fresh berry character. Rich (but balanced) w some oak accents & silky tannins. Great now but also many years ahead

Apr 17th, 2021Light body and lean, soft extraction. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, bright cherries, soft understated vanilla, amazing bright red & blue florals. Beautiful acidity with a lean well polished fruity, finish.
Photos of; the Estate property, a nice sunset as seen from one of their sitting areas on their property, Owner/Winemaker, Steve Matthiasson having some vineyard fun amongst some of his very old gnarly vines and another shot of of a Matthiasson vineyard.

It's football season mother f'ers!! 🏈 my favorite time of year. This is a very plush easy drinking merlot. It comes off very low in alcohol with a cherry fruit core and chocolate covered plum flavors. The finish doesn't have significant length but this is a very well made plump and pleasurable bottle.

Sep 11th, 2017First time opening the 2011 since bottling, better after a day open, much more flesh, the trademark bing cherry and bay leaf from the vineyard is there, interestingly the 2011 is softer than the slightly warmer 2010 vintage, but the fruit was picked well before the rains, so perhaps less vintage effect.

Mar 27th, 2016Steve, I am a bit upset. Your wines are all so stunning and I can't help but fall for each and every one. Problem is I want more and I have a hard time selling them because I keep drinking them! I will try and track this gem down again. Good acid lifts the deep wild fruit character. Great balance, structure and complexity. Thank you @Steve Matthiasson for your stunning wines.
