Winemaker’s attempt to create the archetypical white wine—he may well have succeeded. Certainly one of my faves. Blend of sauv blanc, ribolla gialla, semillon and tocai friuliano and it seems like everything contributes toward a very complex profile. Nose has tropical fruit, spice, sweet hay and briny oyster shell. It’s waxy and viscous in the mouth but not heavy, with plenty of acidity lending a sense of freshness. Palate has a broad spectrum of fruit, from tangy lemon lime and bitter grapefruit to peach and apricot and pineapple, with some vanilla and toasted nuts. Have a few more of the ‘14s from the Hurricane Harvey relief effort, looking forward to seeing where they go from here.

One of the great white wines of California in my book. Green-gold in the glass, aromas of tropical, citrus and ripe stone fruit, nutty butterscotch, fresh grass, chamomile, somehow unctuous and light and fresh at the same time

Opened to kick off Father’s Day last week. Shout out to the WNH and the commemorative glasses produced by @Carl Fischer which were easy to hold while my youngest and I dominated the annual corn hole tournament 🏆🍷
This Matthiasson was firing! Herbal yet crisp and clean, green apple, nice weight and substantial mouthfeel 👍🏽

This is a Boudreaux Blanc type of thing. Nice and refreshing but a bit too acidic for me.

Blind, was sure this was Austrian. Wow. Minerals. Melons. Snap. Truffle. Earth. Apples, lemons. Lime zest.

This 2014 Matthiasson white blend is around 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 25% Ribolla Gialla, 20% Semillon, and 5% Tocai Friulano shows the great potential for white blends in Napa Valley. A decadent white with rich tropical fruit, honeyed covered apples and wild flowers with bright acidity that invites one for another glass.
